• 1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

• 3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:

• 1 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except by God's appointment, and the authorities that exist have been instituted by God.
• 2 So the person who resists such authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will incur judgment
• 3 (for rulers cause no fear for good conduct but for bad). Do you desire not to fear authority? Do good and you will receive its commendation,
• 4 for it is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be in fear, for it does not bear the sword in vain. It is God's servant to administer retribution on the wrongdoer.
• 5 Therefore it is necessary to be in subjection, not only because of the wrath of the authorities but also because of your conscience.
• 6 For this reason you also pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants devoted to governing.
• 7 Pay everyone what is owed: taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is due, honor to whom honor is due.
• 8 Owe no one anything, except to love one another, for the one who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law.
• 9 For the commandments, "Do not commit adultery, do not murder, do not steal, do not covet," (and if there is any other commandment) are summed up in this, "Love your neighbor as yourself."
• 10 Love does no wrong to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
• 11 And do this because we know the time, that it is already the hour for us to awake from sleep, for our salvation is now nearer than when we became believers.
• 12 The night has advanced toward dawn; the day is near. So then we must lay aside the works of darkness, and put on the weapons of light.
• 13 Let us live decently as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in discord and jealousy.
• 14 Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh to arouse its desires.

• 1 All of you must obey the government rulers. Everyone who rules was given the power to rule by God. And all those who rule now were given that power by God.
• 2 So anyone who is against the government is really against something God has commanded. Those who are against the government bring punishment on themselves.
• 3 People who do right don't have to fear the rulers. But those who do wrong must fear them. Do you want to be free from fearing them? Then do only what is right and they will praise you.
• 4 Rulers are God's servants to help you. But if you do wrong, you have reason to be afraid. They have the power to punish, and they will use it. They are God's servants to punish those who do wrong.
• 5 So you must obey the government, not just because you might be punished, but because you know it is the right thing to do.
• 6 And this is why you pay taxes too. Those rulers are working for God, and they give all their time to the work of ruling.
• 7 Give everyone what you owe them. If you owe them any kind of tax, then pay it. Show respect to those you should respect. And show honor to those you should honor.
• 8 You should owe nothing to anyone, except that you will always owe love to each other. The person who loves others has done all that the law commands.
• 9 The law says, "You must not commit adultery, you must not murder anyone, you must not steal, you must not want what belongs to someone else." All these commands and all other commands are really only one rule: "Love your neighbor the same as you love yourself."
• 10 Love doesn't hurt others. So loving is the same as obeying all the law.
• 11 I say this because you know that we live in an important time. Yes, it is now time for you to wake up from your sleep. Our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.
• 12 The night is almost finished. The day is almost here. So we should stop doing whatever belongs to darkness. We should prepare ourselves to fight evil with the weapons that belong to the light.
• 13 We should live in a right way, like people who belong to the day. We should not have wild parties or be drunk. We should not be involved in sexual sin or any kind of immoral behavior. We should not cause arguments and trouble or be jealous.
• 14 But be like the Lord Jesus Christ, so that when people see what you do, they will see Christ. Don't think about how to satisfy your sinful self and the bad things you want to do.

1 Thessalonians 5:6

• 6 So we should not be like other people. We should not be sleeping. We should be awake and have self-control.

1 Peter 4:7

• 7 The time is near when all things will end. So keep your minds clear, and control yourselves. This will help you in your prayers.

Romans 13:1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14

• 1 Every person must obey the leaders of the land. There is no power given but from God, and all leaders are allowed by God.
• 2 The person who does not obey the leaders of the land is working against what God has done. Anyone who does that will be punished.
• 3 Those who do right do not have to be afraid of the leaders. Those who do wrong are afraid of them. Do you want to be free from fear of them? Then do what is right. You will be respected instead.
• 4 Leaders are God's servants to help you. If you do wrong, you should be afraid. They have the power to punish you. They work for God. They do what God wants done to those who do wrong.
• 5 You must obey the leaders of the land, not only to keep from God's anger, but so your own heart will have peace.
• 6 It is right for you to pay taxes because the leaders of the land are servants for God who care for these things.
• 7 Pay taxes to whom taxes are to be paid. Be afraid of those you should fear. Respect those you should respect.
• 8 Do not owe anyone anything, but love each other. Whoever loves his neighbor has done what the Law says to do.
• 9 The Law says, "You must not do any sex sin. You must not kill another person. You must not steal. You must not tell a lie about another person. You must not want something someone else has." The Law also says that these and many other Laws are brought together in one Law, "You must love your neighbor as yourself."
• 10 Anyone who loves his neighbor will do no wrong to him. You keep the Law with love.
• 11 There is another reason for doing what is right. You know what time it is. It is time for you to wake up from your sleep. The time when we will be taken up to be with Christ is not as far off as when we first put our trust in Him.
• 12 Night is almost gone. Day is almost here. We must stop doing the sinful things that are done in the dark. We must put on all the things God gives us to fight with for the day.
• 13 We must act all the time as if it were day. Keep away from wild parties and do not be drunk. Keep yourself free from sex sins and bad actions. Do not fight or be jealous.
• 14 Let every part of you belong to the Lord Jesus Christ. Do not allow your weak thoughts to lead you into sinful actions.

1 Thessalonians 5:6

• 6 Keep awake! Do not sleep like others. Watch and keep your minds awake to what is happening.

1 Peter 4:7

• 7 The end of the world is near. You must be the boss over your mind. Keep awake so you can pray.

• 10 Love never hurts a neighbor, so loving is obeying all the law.
• 11 Do this because we live in an important time. It is now time for you to wake up from your sleep, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.
• 12 The "night" is almost finished, and the "day" is almost here. So we should stop doing things that belong to darkness and take up the weapons used for fighting in the light.
• 13 Let us live in a right way, like people who belong to the day. We should not have wild parties or get drunk. There should be no sexual sins of any kind, no fighting or jealousy.
• 14 But clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ and forget about satisfying your sinful self.

• 1 Let every soul be subject to higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, but the existing authorities have been ordained by God.
• 2 So that the one resisting authority has opposed the ordinance of God, and the ones opposing will receive judgment to themselves.
• 3 For the rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the bad. And do you desire not to fear the authority? Do the good, and you will have praise from it;
• 4 for it is a servant of God to you for the good. But if you practice evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword in vain; for it is a servant of God, an avenger for wrath to the one practicing bad things.
• 5 Because of this, it is necessary to be subject, not only on account of wrath, but also on account of conscience.
• 6 For on this account you also pay taxes, for they are ministers of God, always giving attention to this very thing.
• 7 Then give to all their dues: to the one due tax, the tax; to the one due tribute, the tribute; to the one due fear, the fear; to the one due honor, the honor.
• 8 Do not continue to owe no one, nothing, except to love one another. For the one loving the other has fulfilled the Law.
• 9 For, "Do not commit adultery," "do not murder," "do not steal," do not bear false witness, "do not lust," Ex. 20:13-15, 17 and if there is any other commandment, in this word it is summed up, in the words, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Lev. 19:18
• 10 Love does not work evil to the neighbor. Then love is the fulfillment of Law.
• 11 Also this, knowing the time, that it is now the hour for you to be aroused from sleep, for now our salvation is nearer than when we believed.
• 12 The night is far gone, and the day has drawn near; then let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the weapons of the light.
• 13 Let us walk becomingly, as in the day, not in carousings and drunkennesses, not in co-habitation and lustful acts, not in fighting and envy.
• 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not make forethought of the flesh, for its lusts.
